What to do in and around Almerimar.

Almerimar - The main leisure activity in Almerimar is basically eating, drinking, relaxing and enjoying the terrific all year round weather. There are a number of other things to do though !.

Alhambra - take a trip to the fortress and gardens of Alhambra near Granada?

Boat Trips - head down to the Marina and find some of the charter companies who run daily trips. Some have food and drink included. A sunset trip includes champagne and caviar. Try Autarkie Motor Sail Schooner - Darsena 1 - Tel - 617 023 449

Beaches - Almerimar has 10km of coastline known as Punta Entinas, a National Park made up of sand dunes. The beach in Almerimar is fairly shingley. Head up to Roquetas de Mar for a sandy beach?

Copo - You probably saw The Copo supermarket and shopping mall when you first arrived (just off the motorway). It has a whole host of shops and bars. You can get a bus for 1 euro up to The Copo from just outside the apartment.

Caves - check out the Caves of Nerja, just 3km from the town centre of Nerja (Tel 952 529 520). There are also Caves of Sorbas, Nr Almeria offering routes from 1 to 5 hours around the caves (Tel 950 364 704).

Castle of Guardias Viejas - built in 1769, its only 5-minutes from Almerimar.

D-Bar - this is your nearest bar from the apartment. Head out the security gate beside the childrens play area and you are less than 1-minute away !

El-Ejido - The main town next to Almerimar. You will find a host of shops and Restaurants

Fishing - try a boat trip for some fishing; or just head down to the marina? We have a fishing rod and some tackle in the store shed located in the basement beside the car space. Please help yourself.

Go-Karts - Great fun and very fast ! Head up to The Copo for some exilharating fun. They have karts for most ages groups.

Golf - A major attraction in and around Almerimar. The excellent 27-hole golf course in the heart of Almerimar was designed by Gary Player. The clubhouse is friendly and the restaurant provides excellent food and drink. Clubs, trolleys and buggies are available for hire. You could try La Serena at Roquetas; La Envia just 10-minutes north of Roquetas. An hour to the east is the new and highly rated Valle d'Este course. Keep going and you can golf at the famous Desert Springs course?

Grand Plaza - This is a massive shopping mall based just of the motorway at Roquetas. Well worth a visit ladies !

Horse Riding - Situated in the nature reserve, Punta Entinas, just next door to the apartment.

Jeep Safari - Various excursions into the Sierra mountains by jeep (includes walks, waterfalls, lunch and BBQs). Contact Life Adventure of Nerja (Tel 952 527 058)

Mini Hollywood - Located approximately 24 kilometres from Almeria on the N-340 to Tabernas. In its heyday, more than 100 films were partially shot here, including A Fistful of Dollars, The Magnificent Seven and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. These days visitors can enjoy a daily mock bank hold-up and shootout staged at noon and 5pm daily. There is also a small zoo here with lions, elephants, brown bears and giraffes. Just three kilometres away is Texas Hollywood, also used as a set and boasting a Western town, stockaded fort, Mexican pueblo and Indian tepees. If nothing else, stop off for a cold beer at the Western-style saloon, which is decorated with photos of some of above-mentioned film classics starring Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson and Raquel Welch.

Mercadona - This is the local supermarket in town. Its fantastic - so much fresh sea food, bread, beer and wine. 10-minute walk from the apartment or 2-minutes in the car.

Nightlife - Almerimar has a number of lively bars and nightclubs.

Public Holidays - The Spanish just love to take a day off, usually right in the middle of your holiday. They have loads of bank and fiesta holidays. Just keep an eye out, incase the local Mercadona is closed!

Pink Flamingos - The Punta Entinas is home to many Pink Flamingos. Take the back road to Roquetas and see them?

Quad Bike Hire - Have an adreneline rush and hire a quad bike for the day. Quad Movilmar are located down at the Marina. (try www.quadmovilmar.com )

Roquetas de Mar - Head back towards Almeria and you will find Roquetas de Mar (approx 30km). This is livelier tourist resort with package holiday hotels, bars and restaurants. It has a lovely beach.

Restaurants, bars and shops - There as so many to choose from in Almerimar. Try them all?

Skiiing - Its not all sunshine you know ! The apartment is just 2-hours away from the Sierra Nevada and its famous Sky Station Ski Resort. It has a host of ski runs going up to 3,300 meters

Sailing and Scuba - Head down to the Marina?

Tapas - You are in Tapas heaven here - You will find a huge variety of traditional Tapas dishes in Almerimar. Buy a drink and get a tapas for free ! It's great for keeping the hunger at bay in the afternoon, whilst enjoying a beer or two. If you fancy a larger portion than the tapas, ask for a "raciones". Try La Caleta bar and order a raciones of "Chiperones" (deep fried baby squid - unbelievable !)

Tourist Information - this is located just outside McDonalds at The Copo

Vicar - It is something for Sunday but not Church! Head back on the motorway towards Almeria to the village of Vicar. Only 15-minutes from the apartment, you will find a wonderful Sunday market, selling local foods, leather goods and ceramics.
